I stopped in a little book store today when I was wondering around town for a lazy Saturday. I happened to step in just as the shop owner was making Turkish coffee for his friends outside. He didn't even hesitate to offer to make me a cup as well. He brought me a small porcelain cup of strong but sweet coffee and we chatted a little bit in both Turkish and English. I learned that he was actually an author of several books in the store, one that was about Turkish Socialism and another that looked like a sort of science fiction novel. I looked around the shop and found a sort of shortened version of The Count of Monte Cristo made for children in Turkish. As I am currently learning Turkish, I thought a children's book would be great for me and The Count of Monte Cristo happens to be one of my favorite books. I decided to buy it and I've been very slowly translating it today. I hope to stop back by the shop again and practice some Turkish with the nice gentleman.
